Class descriptions…Click on the following age group that you would like more information about: Adult Programs Preschool Motor Movement ages 2-3 A 30-minute once a week non-stop creative movement class designed for the younger child. Focus is on directions, color identification, gross motor skills, memory, music and fun. Class utilizes scooter boards so no skirt attachments to attire are permitted. Class attire: Girls: Any color leotard (no attached skirts or tutus please), white socks, pink ballet shoes. Boys” Shorts and t-shirt, white socks, white ballet shoes Creative Movement ages 3.5-5 (not in kindergarten) A 45 minute once a week class designed specifically for the preschool aged child. This program focuses on right and left definition, counting music, basic arm and simple feet positions, sequencing, color identification, and most importantly – following directions! This class is available for children that have turned 4 prior to the start of the school year and ages 5. Class attire: Girls: Pink leotard may have a short attached skirt no tutus. White socks, pink ballet shoes, and hair in pony tail. Boys: White t-shirt, black bike shorts, white socks, white ballet shoes. Tiny Tappers ages 3-5 A 30-minute once a week class in basic skills class that moves quickly! Marches, stamps, single taps, shuffles, brushes gradually building into a simple routine that helps develop memory as well as motor skills and quick articulation of the feet/ankles. We offer this class separately at this age as some small children do not care for the loud sounds of tap. Often this is due to allergies, inner ear development. Class attire: girls: Pink leotard may have a short attached skirt – no tutus. White socks, bloch or capezio brand style buckle tap shoes (black), hair in pony tail. Boys: White t-shirt, black bike shorts, white socks, black tap oxfords. Exploring Dance ages 5-7 This class begins with a tap segment introducing the 6 basic steps. These skills enhance rhythms and sounds in al basic dance styles. Ballet positions and technique are presented in this program as well. This program works on memory, placement and understanding of dance styles. Class attire Girls – black tank style leotard no skirts or tutus .Pink tights, pink ballet shoes, Bloch or Capezio BUCKLE tap shoes (no ties are permitted). Hair in pony tail. No jewelry Boys: Black jazz style pants, white dance shirt, white ballet shoes, white socks Black tap oxfords. Contemporary/Primary Ballet ages 6-10 Ballet fundamentals are offered for this age group at two different levels. Primary Ballet with Modern Dance fundamentals I (5.5 If teacher determines unique ability and attention span w/previous class experience) A 60 minute class that slowly introduces the barre and technique work. Strengthening skills are introduced through fun and movement. Contemporary (modern) dance is utilized to demonstrate levels of musicality and interpretation of music for dancers. Class attire: Girls – Solid Black Camisole Leotard ,Pink convertible tights, pink ballet shoes, Hair in ballet bun. No jewelry Boys: Black jazz style pants, white dance shirt, white ballet shoes, white socks Contemporary /Primary Ballet II (Primary Ballet with modern Dance fundamentals II) This class is a 75 minute program. It builds on barre and technique work. Modern dance is incorporated in this program to develop greater body awareness and encourage students to explore other styles of dance using the discipline of ballet fundamentals as an essential base. Class attire: Girls – Solid Black Camisole Leotard, Pink convertible tights, pink ballet shoes, Hair in ballet bun. No jewelry Boys: Black jazz style pants, white dance shirt, white ballet shoes, white socks Tap Techniques ages 6-12 Our tap programs build on the tap basics and develop progressive combinations. Perfect program to assure you have good clean strong sounds! Two classes/levels for this age group are available. Class attire: Girls – Solid Black Camisole Leotard Beginner/ Intermediate is held Pink tights, Hair up and out of face. No jewelry May wear tap shorts/dance shorts. Boys: Black jazz style pants, white dance shirt, black tap oxfords, white socks. Ballet Technique: Ballet is the most demanding form of dance. Because of the precise execution of movement, aiming for perfection, this discipline demands strength, excellent coordination, determination and ability for artistic expressions. Classes range in levels and from 60-90 minutes in length. Longer if Pointe work is incorporated for advanced students.. Placement class is needed prior to the start of the school term. Advanced Ballet classes Advanced level students require specific class leotard see the director for details. There will be assigned days for this leotard to be worn. Any other solid color style leotard may be worn. Dance skirts permitted for Pointe classes only. Skirt Must match base color of leotard. Hair in Ballet buns with secure pins. Intermediate Ballet classes Girls – Solid Black Camisole Leotard Pink convertible tights, pink ballet shoes, Hair in ballet bun. No jewelry Boys: Black stretch pants, white dance shirt, white ballet shoes, white socks Jazz Intermediate/ advanced jazz assures that students receive a well rounded base for this ever changing venue. Classic theater/Broadway jazz is our greatest emphasis. We believe in giving students a taste of all the great dance styles and history from Luigi style jazz to the ever changing Street jazz/hip hop. Attire: Class leotard, black jazz pants/or class dance shorts, black jazz slip on oxfords or sneakers and black character shoes. Beginner/intermediate jazz class reviews and introduces all the basics and terminology. Focus is on placement, terminology and understanding the rhythms of jazz. Class will continue for consecutive sessions pending enrollment. Attire: Black leotard, black jazz pants or black tights, jazz sneakers or jazz slip on oxfords. Modern This is a great expressive style of dance. We introduce floor-spirals, stretches and progressive combinations across the floor as well as falls, turns and jumps! This program helps the student to improve coordination/balance and
artistic expression. Boys: See director Tap Study a fun style of dance where you, the performer become the percussion instrument. We offer several levels of technique classes, which focus on advancing rhythms, speed and musicality. Placement class is required for those wishing to be considered beyond beginner level. Fitness with the best of dance… Oh my aching back A 30 minute fitness program focusing on core muscle development and relaxation stretches. A great way to end a stressful day! This class runs as an 8 week session. Consecutive sessions will be offered pending enrollment. Attire: Loose comfortable clothing, exercise mat Ballet Barre Fitness This 45-minute program utilizes resistance bands, ballet strengthening exercises and is complimented with basic ballet barre work and stretches. Focus is on posture/alignment, increasing flexibility and stamina. Attire: Comfortable work out clothing – preferably where the instructor can see your body alignment. Ballet shoes optional. Strictly Dance Society Jazz Grab a black derby hat, put on your dancin’ shoes and let’s dance with Fosse style! An 8 week session where each jazz step you learn is put into a fun routine. Attire: Work out clothing, any color derby hat, jazz sneakers or oxfords. This class will be offered in continual sessions pending enrollment. Tap Basics Join
